Houjicha-literally “roasted tea” in Japanese, is a type of green tea celebrated for its smoky, nutty flavor and light-to-dark brown color. These distinctive characteristics come from a unique preparation method: tea leaves and twigs are slowly roasted in a porcelain pot over a charcoal flame before being ground into powder. This roasting process creates houjicha’s signature aroma and color while naturally lowering its caffeine content, making it a gentle alternative to other green teas.
Rocky’s Matcha signature houjicha blends stems and leaves from Tsujiki’s tencha and is slow-roasted at a controlled, low temperature to preserve the tea’s delicate flavor and aroma.
